Why creative wellbeing?
My mission is to provide a safe and creative space that not only helps young people develop their creativity, but is a space to feel included and calm.
Many young people are experiencing anxiety, lackof confidence, low self-esteem, friendship difficulties and neurodivergence challenges. The creative wellbeing programme seeks to offer a warm, friendly base from which to explore such challenges.
Talking about the difficulties we might experience can feel uncomfortable or intimidating. In my work as a psychotherapist, I have observed how being busy with our hands can bridge the gap from discomfort to engagement which arts & crafts can be an excellent tool.
When young people are struggling, they don't need to feel more pressure. In this space they can share as little or as much as they are comfortable to. I am experienced in facilitating art and therapeutic support and seek to work from the place young people are currently at with a low demand, empathetic approach.
What does this look like in practice?
Small group sizes (maximum 8 young people per session)
Option to book on week by week to reduce committment expectation
No pressure to contribute to welbeing topics. Young people can engage to th e level they feel able to which may mean joining in discussions, quietely crafting and everything in between.
The space is set up with a large table for activities, however we have a sofa, beanbag and floor space if anyone needs a bit of quiet.
I will provide an overview of activities and topics ahead of each term to hopefully alleviate anxiety of the unknown.
Participants may contribute ideas of things they would like to do in future sessions. My aim is for young people to develop a sense of belonging and feeling of empowerment from being in the group.
